On December 2, 2024, Pembina Trails School Division experienced a cyber security incident. Our priorities have been to minimize the impact on learning and to safeguard our students' and staff’s information.

Update February 7, 2025
Following a cyber security incident in early December 2024, Pembina Trails School Division has received a report that some files related to the division are available on a part of the web that cannot be easily accessed by the general public using traditional web browsers.
The division is reviewing the files and will notify individuals as appropriate. Current and former staff and students were previously notified of the incident and credit monitoring was offered to current and former staff whose financial information may have been accessed.
Update January 27, 2025
We’re pleased to report that our IT department has restored the divisional and in-school devices necessary for regular school and divisional operations. It is now safe to connect devices to the school network. Work continues to be done on restoring remaining devices.
Update January 7, 2025
Our IT teams have continued their work on restoration and recovery of all school services as a top priority. We have made incredible progress and are pleased to report that:
- most devices necessary to resume regular school operations have been restored;
- high school lab devices have also been restored and those classes can resume; and
- finally, the print server has been re-established, providing staff and teachers with more flexibility in delivering learning to students.

Update December 30, 2024
Pembina Trails IT department is working through the thousands of desktop and laptop computers at the division’s 36 schools and administration buildings. Each unit is being checked for malware and loaded with a top performing security tool. School systems such as PA and phones have been restored. The team is continuing to work on restoring printers.
The investigation into the cyber security incident is ongoing.
