Parent Council
Dalhousie School has a Parent Committee co-facilitated by two volunteers, Lolade Folorunsho and Samina Yaqoob.
About Us
Dalhousie Parent Committee is open to all parents in our community including guardians, community members and school staff who work collaboratively to address the needs, issues and concerns that impact the Dalhousie community and its student learners. We encourage community building and social gatherings at Dalhousie School and support these events through various fundraising efforts.
Our Purpose
To form a partnership with Dalhousie Administration and School Staff while developing a deeper sense of community. We support, promote, and enhance meaningful involvement of parents and caregivers within the school community.
Who Are We?
We represent you! We are Samina Yaqoob and Lolade Folorunsho your parent committee facilitators. As facilitators we liaise with school administration to form agendas for meetings, schedule and chair regular meetings and facilitate communication between the parent group and school staff. We believe that maximum participation of parents will promote healthy community relationships.
What Do We Do?
We work together to support our students to have opportunities beyond what the school can offer. We meet the first Wednesday of every month at 6:00 at Dalhousie School. Committee meeting dates will be posted on the School Calendar on the website.
Our parent committee efforts support extras for the students such as pizza lunches, special events and activities and any extra equipment that the students might need. Parents are encouraged to volunteer when opportunities arise. This is an informal group without an executive organization.
What is Outside the Scope of this Committee?
Our committee is an opportunity to meet to learn about what is happening at the school. Sometimes parents and guardians have concerns, some of which we can problem solve as a collective. The Parent Committee is not an appropriate place to talk about specific student concerns, or concerns about specific employees. We advise that these specific issues be addressed privately with school staff or administration.
