4/5 BR Storytelling
4/5 BR embarked on a learning experience together that had oral storytelling as a focus. We brainstormed reasons why oral storytelling is so important and we looked at examples of stories that had been passed down through generations. Students were then tasked with researching artifacts and family stories of their own. Each student presented family history to the class. Engagement was high as students learned more about their peers, and learned more about their own histories. We heard about a time when toilet paper was only used for company, we saw teddy bears that had been made out of a grandmother’s fur coat, and we learned of one student’s connection to World War II. Students also enjoyed hearing stories about naughty relatives! 4/5 BR wants to extend a huge thank you to all the family members that helped with this special project. It is our hope that these stories continue to be told for generations to come!
